PRotecting Future Tigers: Boo at the Zoo

PRSSA at LSU spread the Halloween spirit by volunteering at the Baton Rouge Zoo for the annual event called “Boo at the Zoo.” Kids ages 2 to 12 were invited to come trick or treat while taking in the sites of the gorgeous animals that call the zoo their home.

As volunteers, we were given a wide variety of jobs. I got to sell wildlife slap bracelets with Alternate National Assembly Delegate Marie-Therese Yokum, and others had the chance to hand out the candy.

“Everyone was really nice and appreciative of all the volunteers there,” said, Julia McGowen, a senior PRSSA member and PRestige account executive.

Getting there early in the morning and braving through the cold was definitely worth it. I loved seeing all the happy kids in their adorable costumes; they were so excited to be there. Their energy and bright faces made it all so much more enjoyable for me to be a part of the event.

I am really glad that I chose to volunteer and take part in something that brought joy to so many kids. Lots of people passed through the area with giraffes and a small playground where I was located, and it was nice to see them all take a break from their lives to relax and enjoy a day at the zoo.

Boo at the Zoo was great place to get in touch with the community and meet other volunteers from the surrounding areas and schools. I look forward to the other service events that PRSSA at LSU is planning and hope that everyone decides to volunteer so they can enjoy getting to know the community.

“I had a lot of fun at the zoo passing out candy to all the kids and seeing all their fun costumes. Everyone seemed like they were having a really good time,” Julia said.

PRSSA will be hosting two service events in the month of November: a ‘Toys for Tots’ drive and a food drive. In the coming days, there will be bins placed by Dr. Moore’s office in Hodges, and in the Holliday Forum of the Journalism Bldg.
